Spirit of the Holidays!

There’s nothing like Christmas decorations to get you in the holiday spirit. This is a picture of my decorated fireplace. After a busy day, when I’m exhausted and wanting to relax, I look at this fireplace along with the decorations and lights scattered around my place and I smile at what is mine. Living in Chicago with the hibernating weather allows me the opportunity to reflect on what I have achieved, what I want to achieve, and what I’m truly thankful for and blessed.

Ivy curls ‘round the fireplace
Music elates holiday guests

Clock strikes midnight for Santa’s snacks
Lights dim to close out the New Year

Christmas sock hangs on the mantel
Days after rejoiced Christmas cheer

Pass in search of leftover gifts
Given to express one’s emotion

Holly berry dried upon the floor
Lost sentiment once held dear

Search the mirror for past pain
Smile for they shall always be near

  1. Hi Bea,
I liked the poem and the fireplace picture. Great use of symbolic items shown on top of the fireplace. Altogether a thought provoking piece.
Hope your stocking gets filled with lots of good cheer!!

  2. Hey Veejay!

My favorite, since I was a kid was taking the items out of my Christmas stocking. I loved that more than unwrapping my gifts. And I still put little things in my Christmas Stocking and on Christmas morning, I sit in my comfy chair and take them out acting surprised. LOL! Okay, I'm a dork, but I love my stocking gifts.

Take care and I hope your holidays are safe and wonderful.
