Unknown Destination

Writing is an unknown destination
Unsure of where it will take you;
It’s spiritual, an individual faith
Challenging ideas and your limits

Smell of paper invokes imagination
Full of plot twists while characters accrue;
Pen moves detailing settings and faces,
Protagonist’s ventures with misfits

They argue and ultimately take control
Minds of their own, unaware of what they’ll do;
An oarless boat turned out to sea
Rocking with waves of joy and woes

Driving along until you hit a pothole
Press on; you succeed in avoiding an early adieu
Smile knowing there is no guarantee,
But aware you just wrote wonderful prose
