Fallen Star

I wrote this poem a while back and requested some feedback. It received good responses along with critiques. One person even stated, “...this started out with one of THE most romantic lines I have ever read.” What do you think?

Fallen Star

Have you ever
seen a fallen star
and wondered

who had caught it?

Was it Aphrodite,
holding it hostage
to give to her next lover,

Or Apollo

who grabbed hold
of it, to steal the
light for his lyre?

For I doubt
if you had caught
the star

you’d keep it a
secret from me,

because our lives
were sworn to truth
and love, and secrets

are hypocrisy.

Have you ever wondered?

Wishes and Stars,

Waiting is a Heavy Word

“Waiting is a heavy word,”

a veteran I must admit

It challenges your fortitude,

what are you willing to commit?

Autumn day brings tearful woes

from an unwanted departure

Cupid’s aim is not to blame,

rumor says he’s not the best archer.

Over the pond his arrow soared

to find the perfect ones to fit.

When it came to piercing the heart

he found two already split.

While waiting for another chance,

hearts strong from the waiting game,

though heavy is this thing they do

it’s never blown out their flame.

Lover of Ice Cream!

Lover of ice cream
put me on display,
valid cause to scream
my silence betray.

Its cold, soft texture
one lick of the tongue,
delight exposure
from bed I had sprung.

Trapped inside your arms
like a spider’s prey,
turned from your charms
eyes drift to the tray.

Only in my dream
will you share these treats.
Lover of ice cream,
I beg for your sweets.
