Poetry Blitz!

I found an interesting site that lists many invented poems, so I decided to try one out. This is a Blitz Poem created by Robert Keim. It’s a poem of rapid flow and repetition. The first 48 lines are short, at least two words, and the lines run in pairs. Write the first two lines, and then the last word of second line becomes the first word of lines three and four. This pattern continues through line 48. The last two lines repeat the last word of line 48 and then line 47.

The title must be only three words with a preposition or conjunction. This conjunction must join the first word of the third line with the first word of the 47^th line, which is the title of the poem. Okay, I wrote this quick today, so I hope the line patterns and numbers are fine.

Featured Author – Toi Thomas

Today I introduce you to Toi Thomas, author of Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel, a fantasy novel with a spiritual twist to it.

A self-proclaimed techie and foodie, Toi Thomas was born in Texas, but considers Virginia to be home. Growing up in Dallas, Toi had a strong interest in reading fiction and loved to watch movies. Even today, many of Toi’s friends come to her for the answers to movie trivia. Working with computers and cooking lavish meals have become reoccurring pastimes for the Virginia Beach teacher’s assistant, but now Toi wants to entertain the world with the first installment of her new books series. Eternal Curse: Giovanni’s Angel Synopsis

A wealthy doctor in search of a purpose and an isolated outcast searching for acceptance, meet online and discover that they may be just what the other has been looking for. Mira’s a woman who believes in what she knows and Giovanni’s a man who knows better than to think he truly knows anything. When Mira decides to meet Giovanni face to face, for the first time, at his secluded country home, their journey truly begins. Will the doctor and the outcast be able to stand strong against all the powers of heaven and hell to pursue their ultimate purpose?

How did this book come about?

Toi’s first book started as notes taken on a reoccurring dream. There’s so much she doesn’t remember of the dreams, but once she started taking notes, a story began to develop. She wrote to keep her mind off anything or everything that was troubling her at the time. It worked and Toi ended up with her first book.

Why self-publish?

For Toi, self-publishing was a second thought after having little results from the traditional process of publishing, but she thinks self-publishing may actually be harder. Ultimately, whatever the future holds be it success or failure, she is in control of it all and loves it.

Featured Fantasy (Epic) Author – Mark Tierno

Welcome to our next featured author, Mark Tierno. He is a lifelong fan of fantasy and sci-fi, so it’s no surprise that Mark’s written genre is fantasy. His currently published book, Maldene Volumes I & II, are available in re-release under a new indie publisher.

Mark lives in his home town of Monrovia, California and has degrees in Physics and Math. Having spent most of his adult life caring for one parent and then the other, the only thing that maintained his sanity was discovering his talent and love for writing; a talent his parents well appreciated. Maldene is the first book in a series that will redefine the word Epic.

Maldene Synopsis

Maldene is a world of fantasy and science, a world of fantastic creatures, characters that range from the crazy to the wise, and home to many astounding secrets. It is also home to the most villainous evil known:  Miro (Pronounced MY-RO). It is said that even the gods fear Miro, though they aren't saying why, and stories of this evil wizard go back many thousands of years.

The Maldene series spans several continents of this giant Earth-swallowing world, crosses to other dimensions, and later on in the series other worlds and even far distant periods in its history. But it all begins in the first book (currently published as Volume I and Volume II), in which we follow Sabu, Eldar, Sindar and their companions on a search for secrets, destiny, and discovery of what REALLY goes on in the world.  Three different continents, journey to a second world, the Sea of A Thousand Islands, Tedelnosho (The Great Whirlpool), the mysterious King who is the only one willing to stand up to Miro's forces, over a dozen main characters, several alien races (from the sea-going Thirdocians to the avian-evolved Kÿecians), and this is just the first book, as the first chapter in a story that spans several books.

How Maldene Evolved

This book evolved in Mark’s mind from the germ of an idea to adding in different elements over the years. He always wanted to do the ultimate villain, and loved fantasy and SF, of which this story combined both. Finally, while in the course of helping his mom care for his dad (Parkinson's Disease), Mark’s grandfather's old house burned down and the insurance money gave them some breathing space and allowed him some time to start writing his epic. Just the writing alone did a lot to raise the bleak atmosphere that had settled upon his house and family.

Writing is a great outlet when dealing with life’s troubles. I hope the hard times are behind Mark.

Why Indie?

His former publisher was Publish America. They did nothing to promote his own or anyone else's books, and simply tried to nickel and dime their authors. Between that and going through probate after his mom passed away, Publish America wasted approximately 5 years of his time. Mark had many people tell him how they liked his book, including one industry professional, but Publish America was not about to do anything to help out their authors. He had enough, and now went with an independent.

It’s always a delicious, warm fantasy,

the kind that melts other notions.

This remedy is called chocolate therapy

captivates, like lover’s potions.

Recline to enjoy an oral eruption

dark Ganache, or a white delight.

Close eyes, swim in bliss without interruption

stirs, then increases toward excite.

Sugar dusted on top of velvet Truffle

tongue enrobed, forget depression.

Nutty or cream fill, requires a shuffle

to devour my chocolaty obsession.
