I’m a huge football fan, but unfortunately I
will not be watching the Super Bowl. It will be a bit too late for me, and Da
Bears aren’t in it. It always makes me laugh
hearing people's excitement regarding the ‘Super Bowl
Commercials’ or the half-time show.
But I must admit, it’s always interesting to
see which corporations paid big bucks to have their commercial viewed during
the Super Bowl. What’s even more interesting is how much money that corporation
paid for their advertisement, and whether or not the commercial has anything to
do with the product.
Let’s take a peek at a few Super Bowl
commercials.
Well if Coke can make Mean Joe Green nice, maybe I'll try it. Kidding
aside, everyone still remembers this commercial.
Here’s a Pepsi commercial from the 1990s.
I have to say this commercial was ingenious. It shows
the product, and how it affects a person, and then it does a full circle back
to Pepsi.
Then you have one that doesn't make much sense.
But it made for a popular saying.
Now 2014 Commercials.
I love the video, it made me tear up, but it
doesn’t have anything to do with beer. Even though I’ll remember the
commercial, it won’t get me to buy Budweiser. Then again, no Budweiser commercial can convince me to buy it.
Okay, I laughed at this one. Maybe it’s because
I live in Germany.
After watching these commercials, it made me
wonder if the companies sold more product, or if they fired their entire advertising department?
What’s your favorite Super Bowl commercial or halftime
performance?
American and Super Bowl,
Bea
I'm not a sports fan by any means, but at least Seattle is considered a "local" team in my neck of the woods. With all the commercials being available online now, I pay even less attention than I used to. It was fun to do a short media unit with students that incorporated analyzing commercials. As for the Budweiser commercial with puppy, it strikes me as so cloyingly sweet and that song whatever and whoever sings it grates on my nerves since it's been played relentlessly on the radio here. The EDS Cat Herders commercial is genius. You should check it out.
ReplyDeleteJeri, I'll have to search for that EDS Cat Herders commercial.
DeleteOh yes - those commercials have a lot to answer for...
ReplyDeleteWho pays attention anyway nowadays?? I record everything I want to watch and then miss out the ads!!
True, Pat. A lot of people record their programs. I guess I forget about that.
DeleteThe Super Bowl was pretty disappointing, as it always is, and I'm not even talking about the game. People always hype up the commercials but they were pretty mediocre. It just astounded me to see all of the girls in room "ooh" and "aww" over the Budweiser horse and puppy one. So... the dog wants to be with the horse for some reason, and this has to do with beer?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't matter, women love it. Rake in the millions.
I heard about it and saw the score. I'm sure it's very disappointing for you, but your team made it that far. I won't say maybe next year, because that's a "Cubs" jinx phrase. Have a beer.
